WSOP Full House Poker Pro Gets Delayed

It was announced within the last few weeks that the new poker game "WSOP: Full House Poker Pro", which is a new World Series of Poker branded game, will be delayed until Summer 2013.  This comes after quite a long time of the developer Pipeworks touting a Spring 2013 release for the free to play poker game.

WOSP: Full House Poker Pro
Of course the gaming community has gone crazy like they so often do about games that get pushed back.  Threats of "I'm not going to buy this" are commonplace on just about any forum or facebook page you can imagine.  But why is a game that is seemingly finished being pushed back?  I have a pretty good guess.

XBOX LIVE Summer of Arcade.

I believe it was a decision on the part of Microsoft to delay the title to it could be included in the "Summer of Arcade" program.  For those of you that don't know, the "Summer of Arcade" program is a multi week long program (4 to 6 weeks) where a hot arcade title is released every Wednesday until all the titles in the program have been released.  There is also usually a rebate on the games if you buy all of them, which basically amounts to if you buy them all, you get one free.

What does this mean though?  It means that WSOP Full House Poker Pro is being delayed just to make a promotional event more appealing.  I have my suspisions that not only will the pop up on "Summer of Arcade" but it may be doing so with a price tag.  That isn't confirmed but when I think about how the program works, it just makes sense.  That's not to say that maybe they are just adding it to the lineup of games as a bonus and it may still be free to play.

At this point though the damage may be done.  Now I expect that a high percentage of the people that said "I'm not going to get this game now" will probably still download it and play it the day it comes out, but why would you want to disappoint so many people?  The game boasted a Spring 2013 release date for as far back I can remember, so the sudden push to Summer could really turn some people off.  I know that I was checking the Marketplace every Wednesday since it didn't have a concrete date, and then I saw on their facebook that it was pushed back to Summer.  I was pretty disappointed and a little angry to hear that. So its understandable that other people will be disgruntled about this as well.

All of us poker fans will just have to keep our pants on for now and hope that the date doesn't get moved again.  I'm still looking forward to the game but truth be told I'd rather be playing it right now rather than still waiting.

Let us know how you feel about this and about game delays in general in the comments section below and stay tuned to Big Ups Gaming for more gaming articles!  Thanks for reading!

  1. Curious to what your thoughts are now. I was in Vegas in mid July and at the Main Event they had a Full House Poker Pro ad in the ESPN feature table area. I am very anxious. I think they are waiting for the change from Microsoft Points to real currency that starts in September.
