Wolfenstein The New Order To Bring "Retro Shooter Mechanics to Modern Gaming"

Here we look quickly at Wolfenstein The New Order to see what is boiling up with the new shooter in the Wolfenstein lineage, brought forth by developer Starbreeze.

The new Wolfenstein promises retro shooter mechanics in a modern game setting.  This does not seem appealing to me because when I think of "retro shooters" I think of things like gaming before mouse support was added to games or side scrollers like Contra that were super hard to play.

The new game will be set in an alternate reality in which the Nazi regime won WW2.  The game promises to be both intense and moody at times, then bordering on ridiculous at others.  What this means for the game we don't really know.  If it is done properly (which no game in the series has done so far on any level, mostly feeling like past gen gameplay with a modern graphical coating) it could really give the franchise the boost it needs.

The only thing I could dig up as far as retro gameplay is concerned is that the main character's (BJ from all the other games) health will only regenerate to 20%.  If you want to replenish his health or armor you will have to pick up the health and armor packs off the ground.  I can't say that I've been longing for this mechanic to return to gaming, but we'll see how it shapes up.
