Quick Review: Krieg Character for Borderlands 2

The new Krieg character for Borderlands 2 is a melee class character reminiscent of Brick from the original Borderlands. His action skill swaps his guns out for a buzz saw axe just like the ones bad ass psychos carry. His three skill trees include Bloodlust, Mania and Hellborn.

Hellborn includes causing fire damage as well as lighting yourself on fire. Burning yourself will raise stats such as burn chance, burn damage, and melee damage. This effectively turns Krieg into a killing machine powerhouse almost more so than Salvador the Gunzerker. Also spending skill points in Hellborn allows Krieg to breath fire as a melee override skill with a cool down timer.

Krieg the new playable character gets his saw axe on!
Mania skill tree grants the player with more health, stronger melee and health replenishment. A skill called "Light the Fuse" replaces the normal down but not out with Krieg holding a stick of dynamite. While "Light the Fuse" is active you can move normally while a timer counts down. If you can score a kill during this time you will be revived.

Last is the Blood Lust skill tree which deals with strengthening your damage output in various ways. Some will give you added damage with assault rifles and adding an explosion to your action skill.

Krieg's action skill is called Buzz Axe Rampage. This action skill has been the most fun so far for me because of the many things it grants while using. You can swing away with the axe, butchering many strong character just as easily as skag pups. Also during Rampage you can hold the left trigger to aim the axe and throw with a press of the right trigger. This hasn't come in handy as much to me, it seems to be pretty touchy on scoring hits. The real greatness of this skill is running among enemies and handing out a world of hurt with the normal attack. This attack fills your health bar with each kill, making it easier to drop hordes of enemies with out a concern to your health.

I've enjoyed my time with Krieg thus far and I can't wait to hit that 61 level cap with him. The introduction of this character has breathed new life into this title after having spent countless hours with the gunzerker. If you are looking for more in Borderlands or just haven't played it for awhile, this could be the perfect time to dust your copy off and play as the Psycho Bandit!
