Here is what to expect from the new and improved XBOX LIVE when the XBOX ONE launches.
It was mentioned a while back that there will be over 300,000 severs for XBOX LIVE, that's bigger than the entire internet in the 1990s! This is how games will be able to take advantage of cloud processing.
Your gamerscore and gamertag will transfer over to the XBOX ONE, as well as your current gold membership.
Achievements will now be an evolving thing. They will not be limited to what the dev puts in while making the game. Now the rewards can be made on the fly and can be tailored to the experience.
The new rep system will still let you prefer or avoid, but the system will take into account who plays with you and who doesn't. Gone will be the days of someone getting their whole friends list to give you bad rep just to grief you. The system will look at the rep reports and ask itself, "did these gamers play together?, What actions did each person take in the game?", and things of that nature. The rep system also knows how to identify things like team killing and other forms of grieving and will now automatically adjust your rep depending on how you are playing the games. Sure, every once in awhile you accidentally kill a teammate. The system knows that, but it also knows that you don't kill the same teammate over and over and over again. It knows when its on purpose and will give you the benefit of the doubt when you accidently kill someone on your team.
On to matchmaking. The new "Smartmatch" system is something that is built into the system itself so gone are the days of devs having to code their own matchmaking support. At the Microsoft Day 2 E3 Wrapup, they talked to some of the XBOX LIVE crew about the system and they said "the dashboard is your matchmaking lobby" and talked about "asynchronous matchmaking". What is asynchorous matchmaking? Think of this, you are playing a single player game of Ryse: Son of Rome. Then you decide to play a multiplayer match of Battlefield 4. You simply hit the XBOX button, and tell the console to find you a match in BF4. You can resume your game of Ryse and the system will notify you when a match for BF4 has been found. Then it is just as simple as hitting the XBOX button and accepting the match. The XBOX ONE will pause or save and minimize your game of Ryse, launch Battlefield 4, and place you in the match. That's pretty awesome.
It seems like the service will keep its $60 a year price tag seeing as how they haven't give any indication to the contrary. We will update you if this changes.
